Cobbler gets 36 years for raping stepdaughter
KLANG: The Sessions Court here sentenced a cobbler to 36 years’ jail and 18 strokes of the rotan on three counts of raping his stepdaughter.
The 46-year-old had pleaded guilty to raping the then 15-year-old girl in his house in Dengkil between 2am and 3am on Oct 3, Oct 6 and Oct 11, 2004.
The man was ordered to enter his defence on April 24 last year after claiming trial to the offences when he was charged.
Seven prosecution witnesses took the stand during the trial.
However, the man decided to plead guilty yesterday.
In passing sentence, judge Awang Krisnada Awang Mahmud sentenced the man to 12 years’ jail and six strokes of the rotan on each charge.
The jail terms are to run consecutively from the date of his arrest on Feb 28, 2005.
The cobbler asked for a lenient sentence as he had five children and a wife to support.
However, DPP Siti Syuhada Alwi pressed for a deterrent sentence based on the gravity of the offence.
